Running profiles#

This page covers opening and closing profiles: the statuses in the STATUS column, when a profile closes on its own, and why a profile sometimes will not open.

Open and close profiles#

  • One profile: click the Start button in the ACT column of its row. While the profile is running, this button becomes Stop.
  • Several profiles: select the rows, then click Start or Stop on the toolbar. When you stop several profiles at once, 9Login asks you to confirm; click Stop All.
  • Hidden window: choose Show window in the row's More menu (or the matching toolbar button) to bring the profile's window to the front. This feature is available on Windows only.

Closing the 9Login window or clicking Sign out also closes every profile 9Login opened on the computer.

A profile can close on its own after a set time if you set Duration (seconds) to a value other than 0 (see Profile settings). When the browser window closes, whether you closed it or the Duration ran out, 9Login follows the profile's On Exit setting: Do nothing, Re-open, Clear data or Clear+re-open (see the browser section). When you click Stop, 9Login does not apply On Exit.

Statuses#

Status Meaning
Ready Not running, ready to open. A profile that has finished stopping also returns to Ready
Starting... Getting ready to open. The row's button spins until it is done
Connecting proxy... Connecting an SSH proxy or a proxy from a script, before the browser opens
Running The browser is open
Stopping... Closing the browser
Restarting... The window just closed and the profile is reopening because of On Exit
Stopped 9Login closed the profile itself because it could not verify the account. The message that comes with it gives the reason; check your network connection and plan, then open it again

When a profile has a script, the latest line the script printed with the Log function shows right in the STATUS column, in place of Running. Hover over that cell to see the full line.

Error statuses such as Open elsewhere, Over plan limit, Crashed and Error are explained in Troubleshooting.

Profile open somewhere else#

Each profile can be open in only one place at a time, counting all your computers and everyone on your team. If you click Start on a profile that is open somewhere else, it does not open, the STATUS column shows Open elsewhere, and the message tells you whether the profile is open on another of your computers or by someone else on the team, and for how long.

What to do:

  • Open on another of your computers: click Stop for that profile on the other computer, then open it again on this one.
  • Open by someone on your team: ask that person to stop the profile.
  • The other computer shut down suddenly or lost its connection: wait about 15 minutes until the profile is released automatically, then open it again.

Newer data in the cloud#

On a plan with cloud data, if a profile has browser data in the cloud that is newer than the copy on this computer (because you just used it on another computer), clicking Start shows the Newer data in the cloud box:

  • Download first: download the newer data, then open. This is the recommended choice.
  • Open anyway: open with the data already on this computer. You may be signed out of websites on both computers.
  • Cancel: open nothing.

If you turned on Sync automatically in Settings, 9Login downloads the newer data before opening, without asking.
